It's the middle of the month again and that means that My Geek Box has arrived; this month, I struggled to find a suitable header for this post but I liked this one because blowing out candles on a cake means birthday to me.
This month's My Geek Box theme is Birthday or Anniversaries & Landmarks and quite a lot of franchises have hit a significant landmark in the last year so it could have meant anything once again.
At first glance, it is not obvious what the meaning behind this month's T-shirt design is until you look at it properly and it is glaringly obvious. Ghostbusters is a great film, a classic, and had its 30th birthday last year and plans are in motion to create a new version of Ghostbusters next year which I am intrigued by. I love the design of this T-shirt because it's quirky once again yet simple because of the art style they have chosen; it sums up the film fantastically in my opinion and has inspired me to go watch Ghostbusters.
As of November last year, Wolverine has been in Marvel comics for 40 years and has been a popular character for Marvel since his inception and since Hugh Jackman has started portraying him in the X-Men films, he has become the driving force behind the film franchise; on top of that Marvel celebrated its 75th anniversary last year too so this item is a double celebration from my point of view. Last month in Loot Crate, subscribers were given a completely blank vinyl figure from KidRobot which I am letting my sister create something on when she gets the time but I was thrilled when I got this one in My Geek Box because I love Wolverine and placing stickers on a vinyl figure is a lot easier. While I haven't stickered him up yet - and there are a number of variations I could do of Wolverine with the stickers provided, I will post my finished version at the bottom of this post because I am so excited to have this in my collection.
As I've said, Marvel turned 75 last year and that needs to be celebrated; what says it better than a collectible figure when it comes to comic books. While not my favourite character in the Marvel universe, the classic Iron Man design of this figure is wonderful and will make a great addition to any collection, as it has with mine. I can't wait for the new Avengers film to come out and Captain America: Civil War next year because I love the actors and the way the films are going and this figure has reminded me of that.
I don't remember anything to do with Classic Doctor Who but I know it has had a huge impact on British culture because it is such an iconic show so it's great that My Geek Box are bringing classic Doctor Who novels to more people especially those that missed them because they were too young AKA people like me.
Putting a Doctor Who birthday card in this month's box was a little weird in my opinion because it's a birthday card, not a book or anything like that. I think they could have put something to do with DC comics (who also had their 75th anniversary last year) in the box rather than putting this in because it seems pointless to me though I may use it as a birthday card for a Doctor Who fan in time. The activities are not really aimed at teenagers and over so it may be better suited for a child and should have stayed in the kids' version of My Geek Box.
As always, there's something sweet in My Geek Box which is great for a treat so I may share these with others because I am not keen on what the gummy burger is made out of. It's good to try new things and I'm glad that My Geek Box has allowed me to do that.
This month, My Geek Box could have explained the significance of certain items because to me, they seem really random; I understood the Marvel items and the Ghostbusters T-shirt because they've recently had a significant anniversary but the Doctor Who items stumped me until I looked up when the first episode of the rebooted Doctor Who series was aired (26th March 2005). There should have been some kind of explanation, like Loot Crate did when they had an Anniversary themed crate.
Next month's My Geek Box theme is Alliance!
