While Loot Crate is a mystery by itself, My Geek Box is the mother of all mysteries every month other than the theme because they don't even give you a hint at what will be in the box. You are guaranteed to get a T-shirt but there is no clue what will be on it or what else will come with it and that's a quality I like about My Geek Box.
Sidekicks - every superhero has them even if it's for limited time - and they come in many forms, whether it is someone that reports to them or a ward that is taken in. This month's My Geek Box theme is all about Sidekicks which I was looking forward too because some of my favourite characters in comics are the sidekicks even though they grow beyond their mentor at certain point normally.
I loved the design on this month's T-shirt just for the simple colour scheme and simplicity of the whole design alone. It doesn't seem to me that the design is based on any particular sidekick but the generic feel reminds me of older comics or films where they spoof sidekicks as they tend to be similar just to give the hero someone to bounce ideas off, like they all came from a kit like this.
BANANA!!! Despicable Me is one of those movies I have stuck on randomly just for something to watch because it's full of silly characters, especially Gru's minions - including Dave and Kevin - as well as a spin on the villain being the main character. This Pop has made an excellent addition to my growing collection, bringing a bit more variety to it is predominately superheroes at the minute.
I grew up on Star Trek because of my dad so I am familiar with most of the characters even if it takes me a moment to remember who someone is; with the recent film versions by J.J. Abrams, I am more aware of the original Star Trek characters now rather than just the spin-off characters and found Chekov very endearing for some reason so it's a good thing I got him instead of another character. Overall, while I am not a massive fan of Star Trek, this action figure would make a great addition to any collection.
Holy Poster, Batman!! I love Batman and his sidekick and am glad to have something Robin related out of this month's box as other than the Arsenal/Speedy, Robin is by far my favourite and intend to get a frame for this poster so it doesn't get ruined - when did I get so old and anti-blu-tac. Another success from My Geek Box.
Every so often, My Geek Box place their own magazine in the box which contains interviews and reviews on different things - games and films for example. It's always interesting and it's nice to have something different to read occasionally as I have found when I read previous MGB magazines. I do hope they place a magazine more often because they are enjoyable.
The number of items in My Geek Box is significantly smaller than Loot Crate so that is slightly disappointing but I do like the contains of this month's box because of the variation in sidekicks that they chose, covering a number of different media platforms so that there is something for everyone, a great quality. I do hope My Geek Box keeps up the random items because it's always a great surprise.
