Geek Alert - December Loot Crate

Happy anniversary!!!

Because I live across the pond in jolly old Blighty, sometimes it takes a while for things to get through customs, especially at Christmas because it gets busy so this month's Loot Crate took longer to get here.  Fortunately, it was a fantastic parcel that was worth waiting for.

This month's theme was Anniversary as a number of big names had anniversaries that were celebrated this year: 75 years of Marvel and DC Comics; 30 years of Ghostbusters; 25 years of The Simpsons; and 20 years of Tetris.  These are all things that I have enjoyed over the years and I was excited to get it.

With DC Comics celebrating their 75th anniversary, it seems fitting that the inside of the crate looks like the Batcave with the Batmobile, weapons, various suits in glass containers, and several monitors for Batman to ensure he's keeping Gotham safe.

What is brilliant about Loot Crate is that when they give you a Funko Pop, it is an exclusive version in some way, like in August - Groot's hand glowed in the dark, and this month is no different with an exclusive Batman figure AKA The Joker Batman-Batman who is apparently Batman cosplaying a Joker Batman version of himself, which is weird but quite a fun idea.  I'm glad that it's a Loot Crate exclusive because very few people I know will have one like it.

Exclusive Pops and comic covers are a great part of Loot Crate because they're a great addition to any collection; I am always happy when I get a new comic because it's something I enjoy reading different things and they are always something random yet interesting.  I haven't read any of the New 52 comics that DC Comics has brought out so to revamp their heroes and villains but after reading this one, I may start.  Thank you Loot Crate!

I am Groot.  Three little words that have stuck in the minds of everyone that saw Guardians of the Galaxy and it is an excellent choice to celebrate Marvel's 75th anniversary with Groot socks, though I kind of wish the Funko Pop or the comic was Marvel related because I am much more inclined to Marvel than DC Comics.  However, now my feet are warm and I have some hero socks so I'm a happy bunny.

Who knew freedom smelt like vanilla?  Well I do know.  Another Marvel item was a Captain America Air Freshener which is awesome because you may not have guessed because I've been so subtle about it but I love Captain America and this is now hanging from my rearview mirror.  When I get chance, I will take a photo on my Instagram of the air freshener.  Excellent choice Loot Crate.

Ghostbusters was before my time but I've watched the film multiple times when I was younger and as a student because of the special effects and though it's not one of my favourite films, I appreciate it as part of iconic culture.  I may save this for one of my friends because they really love Ghostbusters and will appreciate the door hanger more.  I was half expecting the Funko Pop to be the Marshmallow Puff Man but the Batman one was so much better.

I used to love playing Tetris when I was a kid on my dad's Gameboy, the original one, as well as my own purple Gameboy Color which I had the Tetris Color for.  Because of that, I was ecstatic about the Tetris stickers because you could make any design out of them if you tried and there is a booklet that came with it so I may have a go and put one on one of my laptop covers. [heart]

While I am happy with my own purse at the minute because it holds all my cards, The Simpsons cast wallet is like a random stocking filler.  It's amazing that this is made out of paper and how it is designed because it shows a lot of imagination in my opinion so I may give this to someone for their birthday or something who will fully appreciate it.

The digital content this month is for an anime site called Crunchyroll which I am going to give to my kid sister because she enjoys anime where as I don't but it's a good idea to cover all bases and will give people opportunities to try something new.

On top of the normal Loot Crate items, they gave us a little candy cane for Christmas which was a wonderful treat and surprise even though it arrived after Christmas, though that's not Loot Crate's fault.

This month, the badge is a lovely shiny gold one which makes it stand out against the other badges, an excellent idea for an anniversary box.  Now it's on my backpack with my others which is slowly being covered.

The Anniversary Loot Crate was full of wonderful things, especially the Funko Pop which is now stood with the rest of my collection.  This one has been one of the better Loot Crates I've had in recent months because I've liked more of it instantly where as others I've not been so keen on, even if they are wonderfully random.  I'm still keeping my subscription to both Loot Crate and My Geek Box because I like the random surprises every month so there shall be Geek Alerts this month.
