Geek Alert - January Loot Crate

It's Loot Crate time and everything from across the pond is starting to arrive at a normal rate, sort of, and once again, it's weird and wonderful with a retro spin on the usual random items.

This month's theme is Rewind with a number of "retro" items in the crate, including retro gaming stuff.  I was somewhat apprehensive of this month's Loot Crate theme because I was born in the cusp of what is considered retro now so I was aware of it but I wasn't bothered about it back then so I wasn't as excited as I have been about Loot Crate before but luckily when I opened it, I was thrilled with it.

The inside of this crate - or when you turned it inside out - the outside of this crate is another example of how creative Loot Crate are with their crates, keeping their standard colour scheme and letting their imaginations run wild.  I love this month's crate design as it reminded me of a game system my friend had when we were younger plus all of the references to various 1980s films and such through "stickers" on the crate including Back to the Future and Ghostbusters.  It is the perfect embodiment of Rewind in my opinion.

The design on this T-shirt completely threw me because I had no idea what Voltron was other than it was similar to Transformers but I did research into it when I got the crate because I like to learn about new TV shows and such especially ones from earlier decades.  I love the design on this shirt because of the detail that is on it, almost like a computer graphic breakdown of Voltron, as I find it quirky, a quality I like when it comes to T-shirts and such.

Once again, Loot Crate have provided a new comic for my collection, something I wouldn't have bought on my own but would read if I was given.  Every so often I learn something new from Loot Crate and this time I have learnt that there are now Star Wars comics, a franchise that always fascinates me because it has had such a huge influence on films and TV shows I like now because it inspired those behind them.  Another reason Star Wars fascinates me is that the effects are still something that wow me and as a former media student, I still find it interesting.

Random figures are one of the reasons I keep my subscription to Loot Crate because they are always something weird and wonderful and this month is no different.  I love this figure - a Mini 10-Doh! figure; the combination of old video game cartridges and Firefly is wonderful.  While there were a number of variations of the figure which we could get in this month's crate including Doctor Who, The Fifth Element, and Back to the Future but I was glad I got the Firefly related one because it is one of my favourite franchises of all time as I love the characters so once I rearrange my shelves, this is going to sit next to my Mal figure I got in a previous Loot Crate.

While I have no call to wear a tie normally, I love the design on this tie and the silky material it is made out of because it feels nice and the design brings back fond memories of playing Space Invaders which I presume was the point of this month's crate.  As I said, I don't have a reason to wear a tie but I may use it as a headband to bring some variety to my look because of the length of my hair; this is inspired from a picture inside the magazine that came with this month's crate so it's not an original idea but an interesting one I think.

Another wearable that came in the Rewind crate were these 8 Bit sunglasses; initially I thought these were just fashion sunglasses but they were proper UV-protected sunglasses.  Sunglasses are something I need because I lost mine in an accident a few months ago and I love the design of these ones as they suit my face better than previous sunglasses.  Thank you Loot Crate!

I adore comic books, especially when they're collecting into big editions making it easier to collect a series even though that takes longer but I am not much of an artist - I can take a decent photograph but my drawings are awful - so I have donated this blank comic notebook to my sister an avid artist because she draws all of the time and they are all wonderful as you can see from her Instagram so fortunately the notebook hasn't gone to waste.  Once she's drawn something in this notebook, I will post it or link it at the bottom of this post.

Loot Crate means a new badge yet again and this month's badge is a simple one with an old cassette - the epitome of retro in my opinion and brings to mind Guardians of the Galaxy and Peter Quill, one of my favourite films and characters that I discovered recently.  This is a great addition to my badge collection.

After a few months of Loot Crate, I have decided to keep an open mind on what is to come because I generally love at least a major part of it because they are random and full of surprises.  Hopefully they keep this up because I have loved the recent Loot Crates and the exclusives that come with it which makes it stand out from My Geek Box.
